Yu Jinyi, Practitioner of Neo-Chinese Wellness Personal Profile

I am Yu Jinyi, also known by my courtesy name Daxuanzi, inheritor of Xuandao Culture, student of traditional Chinese culture, and practitioner of Neo-Chinese wellness.

I. Seeding of Wisdom: Love for Learning Since Childhood, Yearning for an Idyllic Realm

I have always been curious by nature and eager to explore. From an early age, I was drawn to literature and enchanted by classical prose and poetry, nurturing an inner world dedicated to uncovering the universal truths of heaven and earth.

As a child, I watched my cousin wield a brush to create calligraphy, revealing the charm and vitality of Chinese characters at a glance. I fell in love instantly. After learning to read at school, I immersed myself in ancient texts and poems. I imagined myself as a scholar of old: appreciating incense, sipping tea, listening to zither music, composing poems and couplets. I also practiced martial arts to cultivate my body and mind. I admired the freedom of knights wandering the world with swords, physicians healing the sick, and wise hermits dwelling deep in mountains. A longing to pursue the truths of the universe has always lived in my heart.

II. Guided by Noble Books: Enlightened by Master Nan, Captivated by Wisdom and the Dao

As I grew older, I read widely whenever books came my way. One day I chanced upon writings by Master Nan Huaijin. His works deeply moved me. I delved into all his books and was awed by his profound knowledge and integrity. This led me further into the world of traditional Chinese culture. I discovered how rich life could be, and my passion grew stronger.

Among all fields of learning, traditional Chinese wellness resonated with me most. I rooted myself in this discipline and never strayed away.

III. Heartbreak Damages Vitality: Sudden Grey Hairs, No Cure in Sight

In my youth, I buried myself in books and often stayed up late reading. I also fell deeply in love. The line “How dare a poor lad bring misfortune to his beloved?” broke my heart utterly. After our separation, grey hairs sprouted within a single month. I sank into depression, plagued by insomnia. For two to three years, joy eluded me. Anxiety woke me repeatedly from dreams; my smiles were mere pretence, my heart frozen.

To restore my physical and mental health, I sought help everywhere. I consulted numerous doctors, professors and experts, travelled to Beijing to seek treatment, and visited folk healers. None could resolve my suffering. I spent all my savings yet found no relief. I reached rock bottom with nowhere to turn, overwhelmed by helplessness and grief.

IV. Determination in Desperation: Self-Practice, Self-Healing

At my lowest point, I made a vow: to reflect on my past lifestyle and gradually transform it, drawing on the wellness wisdom of ancient sages. I read classics at night and practiced health-preserving exercises such as Baduanjin each dawn, resolving to uncover the principles of wellness and spiritual cultivation.

From then on, I studied traditional Chinese wellness and recuperation methods. Whenever I encountered a healing practice, I learned and tested it on myself. Through personal experience and verification, I gradually healed myself.

V. Apprenticeship under Enlightened Masters: Learning from Wise Teachers, The Superior Physician Treats Illness Before It Arises

I knew well that wellness cultivation is profound and requires guidance from enlightened mentors. By chance, I encountered traditional Chinese recuperation culture and met my teacher, Liu Xuanyan, founder of Xuanyan Culture and popular science educator on traditional Chinese wellness. I attended his public lectures on wellness cultivation and was profoundly inspired by his wisdom. I followed Teacher Liu to systematically learn traditional Chinese wellness philosophy and practices. He passed down recuperation wisdom from ancient predecessors, covering theories and practical applications of wellness knowledge both from the East and West.

My teacher once said, the true skill of recuperation lies in being a superior physician. As Huangdi Neijing (Yellow Emperor’s Inner Classic) states: The superior physician treats illness before it develops. True mastery is restoring body and mind without acupuncture or herbal medicine.

VI. Ten Years of Polishing: Drawing Strength from Many Sources, Reborn Through Adversity

In the years that followed, I devoted myself to researching and personally practicing all methods beneficial to physical and mental wellbeing — practices that nurture the body, calm emotions, and sustain life. These include ancient sages’ self-cultivation principles, seasonal wellness rules, emotion regulation theories, medicinal food and herbal tea recipes, movement therapies, aromatherapy and bath nourishment. I studied every text carefully and validated these practices daily through personal experience.

Ten years of immersion, ten years of refinement, ten years of self-healing. I gradually identified the root causes of my internal exhaustion, repaired depleted qi, blood and spirit, and climbed out of suffering and confusion. I regained inner peace, clarity and stability.

Having endured torrential hardship myself, I understand the agony of people trapped in physical and mental torment. Having experienced financial ruin and desperate helplessness when seeking healing, I know how powerless ordinary people feel with nowhere to turn for wellness. Thus I set my lifelong aspiration: May all people be free of illness.

VII. Observing the World: Modern People’s Wellness Dilemma

Over years of interacting with others, I witness the living state of modern people with heartfelt sympathy. Many young people are trapped in a contradictory wellness paradox: burning the midnight oil while steeping wolfberries in expensive water. They drain their bodies recklessly while trying quick, superficial remedies.

They endure high pressure and repressed emotions by day, then stay up late and consume excessively at night. They lack understanding of natural rhythms, mental nurturing and wellness aligned with nature. They console themselves with fragmented makeshift fixes, falling into a vicious cycle: depletion leads to deficiency, supplementation brings more fatigue, and wellness attempts fuel greater mental exhaustion.

VIII. The Dao Lives in Daily Life: Applying Ancient Wisdom to Modern Times

Many chase instant recuperation, costly supplements and complicated therapies. After more than a decade of deep exploration, I grasped this simple core truth: true wellness is not stacking external remedies, but restoring balance to daily life. The power of self-healing lies in ordinary daily routines.

Therefore I affirmed my life mission: to adapt ancient wisdom for modern life. I aim to demystify obscure ancient wellness knowledge, integrating millennia-old Eastern wellness philosophy fully into modern people’s eating, drinking, rest, exercise and emotional management. I seek to turn profound scholarship into simple practices accessible to everyone, every household, sustainable for a lifetime.

IX. Medicinal Diet, Herbal Drinks & Scented Bathing: Nourishment in Daily Life to Calm the Spirit

Medicinal Food Therapy: I apply ancient medicinal food formulas, arranging daily meals according to seasonal changes and understanding how ingredients nourish one another. Homely meals become gentle wellness support. I advocate organic, wholesome food and minimise junk food.

Daily Herbal Beverages: Building on ancient herbal recipes, I innovate herbal flower teas, seasonal wellness soups, herbal coffee and wellness milk teas. Every ordinary drink can nourish vitality and soothe body and mind.

Bath & Aromatic Wellness: I inherit ancient bathing and aromatherapy practices. Herbal baths relieve fatigue, and elegant scents quiet restless minds.

X. Cultivating the Mind as the Priority: Free Flow of Emotions Keeps Illnesses at Bay

Nurture the mind by regulating emotions and cut off the root of internal mental drain. All illnesses arise from qi stagnation; all debilities start in the mind. The vast majority of physical and mental fatigue and discomforts stem not from physical weakness, but from blocked emotions and tangled thoughts.

I have always advocated the simplest methods of mind regulation: discover merits in others, acknowledge your own flaws, and refrain from complaining about people or events. Let go of obsessions, grudges and entanglements. Reduce resentment and embrace tolerance; cut down inner friction and cultivate peace. For every degree your mind becomes clear and unobstructed, your qi and blood flow more smoothly, bringing greater peace to body and mind. Wellness begins with nurturing the mind. Only a tranquil mind brings a healthy body.

XI. Skillful Movement: Gentle Practices to Stretch Tendons

Movement: Gentle exercises such as Baduanjin, Yijinjing, Tai Chi and Huichun Gong. Strenuous workouts and heavy sweating are unnecessary. Practising for more than ten minutes daily can unblock meridians, harmonise qi and blood, and relax body and mind.

Conclusion: The Three Principles of Guardianship

Eat with proper rules, drink tea with wisdom, sleep at proper hours, practise ancient movement arts, and soothe yourself with aromatherapy in leisure time. Wellness will no longer be a tough, forced discipline. The way of wellness truly belongs to the mundane world of daily necessities.

I always uphold the essence of health preservation I have realised over more than a decade:

Guard the mind to stop all internal consumption;

Guard tranquility to nurture your primordial vitality;

Guard simplicity to live out the rest of life in peace.

My heart aches to see young people nowadays burn themselves out by staying up late, trapped in emotional drain and reckless eating habits. They neglect life routines, eat whatever they crave, ignore the ancient wisdom of healthy diet, and have no idea how to regulate their emotions. Just like my former self, they end up with various health troubles. I put the ancient wellness wisdom into daily life. For example: make cassia seed coffee, mulberry wine, Chinese yam and wolfberry soup, rose tea; prepare baths with folium artemisiae argyi and ginger to condition the body. Ancient wellness exercises such as Baduanjin and Tai Chi help smooth qi movement and unblock meridians.
